A SOLE Christmas Part 2

why is SANTA ON the coca cola bottle?
emily, kiera and alison

Santa has been on the Coca Cola ads since 1920. Coca Cola helped Santa to become more popular. The new Santa has been based on a salesman’s idea. Santa became animated in 2001. The Coca Cola creators put Santa on the Coca Cola bottle when the Christmas holidays come. Coca Cola put Santa on the bottle because he wears a red suit and the coca cola bottle is red. The Coca Cola company did not come up with the idea of Santa being in a red suit. Before the Coca Cola ads came Santa was drawn many different ways than the Santa now. Before the Coca Cola ads Santa was even drawn as a scary elf. Coca Cola introduced the friendly human image of Santa created by Haddon Sundblom in December 1931.

John Pemberton who invented Coca Cola was in the army. John Pemberton invented Coca Cola on May 8th 1886 in Atlanta. The original Coca Cola was both alcoholic and coked up. The word coked up means drugged. Cocaine is an illegal now but when the first Coca Cola was created it was not illegal and was part of the formula. Cocaine was removed from drink in 1903. Coke is 123 years old. Coca cola originally cost 5 cents a glass.

Twas’ The Night Before Christmas Behind The Scenes.
By James, Jumah and P. Moody

A famous bedtime/Christmas book called ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas, but people wanted to know who wrote it, how they got the idea of the book. The person who wrote the book uses the name Clement Clarke Moore. When it first appeared in the newspaper on December 23, 1823, there was absolutely no name attached to it. My guess for the main reason is to get kids start behaving and get kids to have good dreams and a good sleep the night before Christmas. It wasn’t till 13 years later that the author of the book Clement Clark Moore, a professor and poet, stepped forward to claim authorship of the book. In 1844, the basic poem was officially included for the first time in an anthology of Moore’s work.

Reindeer are also called caribou. No one knows why reindeer is wrapped in with Christmas. The reindeer need to make Santa’s sleigh fly. Reindeer is sort of like snowdeer and it snows in winter and Christmas is in winter. Santa picked an animal that lived in the North Pole that is gentle. Santa has a magical whip that he hits an animal with and it can fly. Santa picked reindeer because they are nice and they are active and energetic. Some people think Santa’s reindeer are fake. But no one knows if Santa’s reindeer are real. Donner and Blitzen were oregonaly called Dunder and Blixem.

Some celebrate Christmas and some don’t, for the people who don’t there is a bunch of different holidays. There is kwanza, there is Christmas and there is also Hanukkah. Why do Some People Not Celebrate Christmas and Others Do?

Some people don’t celebrate Christmas because of religion. Christmas started years ago when baby Jesus was born. Christmas and Easter are related because that’s the day Jesus sacrificed himself. Some people do celebrate Christmas because they believe in god and the joy of giving. Some people who don’t celebrate Christmas celebrate Hanukkah or other holidays related to their religion. There are millions of people who don’t celebrate Christmas. Some people are atheists. Each person believes something different. Some people believe Santa is real and some don’t. It is okay to believe differently because nobody knows exactly what is true.

Does Santa Live At The North Pole
By: Grace, Anya, Moody, Ben

Some people believe in Santa and some people don’t. The people who do believe think he lives in the North Pole. Santa is the mascot of Coca Cola. Some people think Santa wears red because of Coca Cola. Santa lives in the North Pole not the South Pole. He lives in the North Pole because it is closer to the people who created Santa. That’s why he lives in the North Pole instead of the South Pole, Santa has other names
The names are Father
Christmas,
 Sinterklaas,
 Julenisse
 Santa Claus
Kris Kringle

Why Is Christmas Called Christmas
by Jenson, Heaven, James and Jumah

The word Christmas gets its name from 2 words, Christ and mass which was a special church that celebrated the birth of Jesus in the mid fourth century.

Why Are Some Christmas Trees Fake?
Mason, Braydon, Josh, and Matt H

Some Christmas trees are fake because some people are allergic to the Christmas trees. People also like fake Christmas trees because they are too lazy to get up and cut one down. Christmas trees are fake because real ones are too much work to care for. Christmas trees are better when they are fake because real pine trees cost too much money (real Christmas trees are around $25 to $100). People buy fake Christmas trees because real ones would drop too many pines needles off of the real tree.

Why do we buy christmas presents?
 Emily, peyton and alison
We buy presents for people for Christmas because it is to remind us of the presents given to Jesus by the wise men.
Different countries and different families that celebrate Christmas have their own reason for given and receiving presents.
In Spain it is believed instead of Santa Claus delivering their presents it is an old lady named Befana.
We celebrate Christmas because Jesus was born December 25th Year 0 and on that day the three wise men gave gifts to Jesus and that was a special day so Jesus birthday became Christmas also.
It is said Jesus was born on the 25th but no one knows the actual date.
  Fun facts
In Europe the presents are not left under the boring old tree. They are left in shoes or boots.
The three wise men gifts include, Frankincense, Gold and Myrrh.

Why Do Our Presents Go Under Our Trees
Tye Matt.P Jorja
Our presents go under the trees because if kids are good they deserve a good Christmas.  The people put presents under the tree because they love their kids. They put presents there because it looks nice.

Do Camels Really Go Without Water
Mason, Cody, Alison, Marlene

Camels can only last 6 to 7 months without water; humans can only live 4 to 5 days without water. People say camels can live longer without water because they store water in there humps but that’s not true. Camels take bigger drinks of water so they don’t have to drink as much. Camels also take bigger drinks because they can’t store water in their humps. Their humps are stored with fat so they don’t freeze when the winter comes. In ten minutes a camel can drink up to 115 litres of water. Males and females both drink the same amount of water; they drink around 100 to 115 litres of water. The average camel can drink up to 1,000 litres of water or more in a single day. Baby camels can drink around 300 to 400 litres a day. The camel’s favourite place to get water from is from water holes from the ground. In a year camels drink about 365,000 litres both female and male. Baby camels can drink around 127,750 litres in a year.
Questions for you:
What is stored in the camels hump?
Around how much water can an adult camel drink in a day?
What is a camel’s favourite place to drink?

If we are made up of water why can’t we float?
By Jenson, Ben, Anastasia and Jorja

We can float because the fat in our body is more dense than water. When we don’t try to swim ours bones are a thing that stops us. We can float if we try. Water doesn’t float it just adds more water. We float from the gravity that pulls us down .

What is The Best Way to Heat a House
By: Harper, James, Kiera, Matthew P.

The 6 ways to heat a house is a furnace, portable heater, and natural gas, heating oil, propane, and the main way is a fireplace. portable heaters must be installed properly to avoid fire and burn hazards. Furnaces is the best way to heat a house but be careful cause they are 75% HOT estimated, furnaces is also the best way to heat up a house cause of its heat. Natural gas is also REALLY hot, are estimated temperature for it is 65% hot. But it should heat a house up in no time! Heating oil is estimated 60% hot, propane is what were not sure of but it is expensive we think. And fireplaces are 50% hot but touching it is 1000% hot and it’s also the main way to keep yourself and the house warm.

Why Can’t We Jump Higher
Emma, Heaven and Tye

Some people can jump really high but it is just because they train and exercise to jump really high.
Most people can’t jump high because of gravity, When we try to jump gravity pulls us down.
Gravity is a force pulling together all matter.( anything that you can touch) You can jump higher on the moon than on earth.

Why Does The Moon Look So Big At Times And So Big At Other Times?
Mathew, Peyton, Kelly, Lindsay

It depends on what angle you are looking at the moon. Sometimes the moon comes closer to earth so it is closer. The moon is always big. Your eyes can focus on the moon and if they focus on the moon it will look closer. It can depend on how much light there is outside. The atmosphere can make a difference on how close and how far the moon looks. It is an optical illusion.

What is Global Warming?
Emily, Lindsay, Marlene and Alison

Global warming is the increase of the earth’s average surface temperature. Scientists agree the main cause of global warming is the human expansion of the "greenhouse effect”. People say when a baby is born today, when they are 80 years old the world will be 6 and a half degrees warmer than it is now. Global warming is a problem of too much carbon dioxide. The greenhouse effect is the trapping of the sun's warmth in a planet's lower atmosphere. In the past 50 years the average temperature in the USA has gone up by 2 degrees. The largest cause of global warming is the carbon dioxide released when fossil fuels such as oil and coal are burned for their energy. The atmosphere is the gases that surround the earth. Some of the other reasons why global warming is caused is, carbon dioxide and other air pollution [greenhouse gases] is collecting in the atmosphere like a thickening blanket, trapping the sun's heat and causing the earth to warm up.
Here are 10 ways to stop global warming:
Replacing one regular light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb
Walk, bike, and carpool to get to places
Recycle more
Check your tires, keeping your tires properly inflated
Use less hot water
Avoid products with a lot of packaging
Adjust your thermostat
Plant a tree
Turn off electronic devices

Will robots be conscious one day?
Peyton, Matthew, Harper, Jumah

Robots don’t have feelings like we do. Robots may or may               not be conscious one day but scientist don’t know. Computers can’t handle any process and a robot is like a computer so they cannot be conscious. They are making robots that have feelings so they can be conscious. Sometimes when robots are shut down they can dream (SOMETIMES). Some scientists think that robots will never have feelings like we do, but it is not 100% correct that they will not have feelings.
Generally, we say that robots don’t have feeling and so they can’t behave like us humans. Some Scientists say that robots that have been made are harmless. That may not be true. Some people say on the internet that there will be a robot invasion but it is known to be not true.

They might be sad. They might be mad. They could be bullied and want to be away from the bully. The person that is not active might not know how to play some of the games there friends are playing. Why Do We Need Big Houses to Live in?
by Emma and Heaven

People buy larger homes for a number of reasons such as they outgrow their smaller houses, they get a raise at work and spend their money on a larger home, they hope to impress others and they think a large home is the home of their dreams.
Usually when people get more money they think that just because they have a lot of money they can spend it on big home.
But a lot of people buy smaller homes for a number of reasons such as it is easier to clean, it is less expensive and there is less decorating.

Can Trees Think
Mason, Tye, Cody, Moody,

Trees can think by using internal communications. They can also memorize different types of light. The leaves communicate through the tree. Plants can sense, warn and remember. Some people say that plants have all the same senses that humans do. Trees are able to remember stuff and the react to it. If a leaf is full of starch it harder to communicate everyone. Starch is when odorless, tasteless goo which fill the leaves up with it.

Why Do We Slip On Wet Surfaces?

When it is wet you have no friction. The wetness makes the grip smaller and you slip. When your grip wears off it slips easier. The dampness gets in your shoe and it can wear down over time. When it is wet mud comes out then you slip on the mud on the ground. The rough bottom of your shoe gets filled with water then you slip. Over time your grip wears off. Water is more slippery on different surfaces. You slip depending on how you walk. It all depends on the friction your shoe and the ground creates.

Why Do We Dream?

Emily, Kiera, Keely and Marlene

The brain incorporates memories and solves problems and deals with emotions. Your dream is your sub-conscious reviewing your day or week. Scientists have been trying to find the answer to why people dream for decades, but they still are not 100% sure. When people dream they will never dream about a person they don’t know. Dead family members can visit you in your dreams. You can have dreams but you might not remember them when you wake up.
Incorporates is a verb used with object.
You can have control over your dreams.

How did the dinosaurs die?
By BEN MOODY Josh James AND CODY

Many people believe that dinosaurs have been killed by diseases, earthquakes, drowning, change in climate, ice age, volcanos, age, cosmic explosions, and starvation meteor showers and by the other dinosaurs eating them.  But many scientists don’t know how they actually died. Meteors are like big balls of moon chunks and when it hit the ground it explodes. A cosmic explosion is when a dying star fall and explodes.  Scientists believe the earth flooded and killed all the dinosaurs then froze and caused the ice age. By dying from volcanos the lava has been siting waiting to explode all over the place. Scientists don’t actually know how they died they only have theories (guess). Many people believe that there were earthquakes that came and killed all the dinosaurs.

Do Fish Feel Pain?
Mason, Peyton, Tye, Jumah, Lindsay,

Some people say fish can feel pain; some say they can’t feel pain. The Answer is they feel pain, because they have pain receptors in there brain which makes them feel pain. Fish feel pain when they get hooked on their upper jaw, lower jaw, and in the eye. Fish don’t feel pain the way that we feel pain when we get hurt. The most pain the fish feel is when they are getting boiled or cooked when there alive. Humans and fish both have pain receptors but humans have more receptors so that’s why humans feel more pain instead of fish. Fish feel pain when they are getting eaten by sharks and other animals that eat fish. If fish did not have pain receptors they would not be able to feel pain. Fish have to feel pain because all animals needs to feel pain.

Can carrots improve your eyesight?
Carrots won’t improve your eyesight if you have less than perfect vision. Carrots won’t give blind people perfect eyesight but there are vitamins found in carrots that help eye health. In Middle Ages carrots were believed to cure anything. Carrots cannot improve vision but they are a good source of vitamin A. There is no food that can improve eyesight including carrots. In Ww2 Britain’s air ministry started to spread the word that eating carrots helps your vision to see at night.
