Remembrance Day Research

Remembrance Day
By Emily
A)    Why remember?
B)    Whom do we remember?
C)    What we should remember?
D)   How do we remember?

A) We should remember because the people who fought in the war fought for us to have freedom and died for us to have happy lives. These people fought for Canada to have freedom. If the Canadians did not win the war we all would be speaking German right now.

B) Whom do we remember? We should remember all the Canadian soldiers and people apart of the war. Remember the people who were willing to fight for people they didn’t know and fight for their country.

C) What should we remember? Why all these people fought in the war. Who the soldiers fought for. How many Canadian soldiers and Canadian people died doing something good for their people and their country.

D)How do we remember? We remember this day and all those people who risked their lives to save ours by wearing poppies. Poppies are worn of a symbol of remembrance. Poppies are a reminder the blood red flowers that still grows in France Belgium. Poppies are a reminder who died fighting for peace. We wear poppies as a reminder of horrors, conflict and preciousness of peace they fought to achieve.

Remembrance Day
By Cody

Why remember?
People sacrificed themselves for our country. If we don’t remember all the sacrifices will be meaningless. The Canadian soldiers died for us. Fathers, son, daughters were all killed in the action of the war. Soldiers sacrificed themselves to give us freedom.

Whom do we remember?
We remember the RCAF pilots. We remember all the fallen soldiers. We remember the men and women who fought for our country. All of the volunteers who served our country. People around the world who sacrificed themselves. The people who experienced blood and carnage. The Prisoners of Wars who suffered in World War 2.

What should we remember?
The loss of comrades during the world war. The military strategies used to defend Canada. The captured Canadian soldiers at World War 2. The defence against the Nazi attack. We remember Colonel John McCrae and his poem. The loss of Canadians on Juno beach.

How do we remember?
On November 11 we pause for 2 minutes in silence. We wear poppies on November 11 to appreciate the fallen soldiers. We go to memorials and ceremonies. We pay honour to those who respond to our Country's needs. We work in peace every day of the year. We represent all of the navy, army, air force, and merchant marines.

Remembrance Day
By Jenson

Why remember
We need to remember hundreds of thousands of people who died for us. We remember because they sacrificed there life for us. And if they came back they had to live the rest of there lives with physical and mental scars of war.

What  we should remember
I think that we should remember June 1944. Normandy the big offensive against Nazi Germany in France. It was the turning point of WW2
If we lost that fight we might have not won the war.

In my opinion they are the most brave people in the world. They were running on a beach with the most powerful guns in the world shooting at them

How do we remember
We remember by putting a poppy on our heart and having 2 minutes of silence and also having parades and sermons and going to the war memorial site and putting flowers on the grave.

Remembrance day
By Marlene

The sacrifice of those one hundred thousand Canadians lives will be meaningless. All the Canadians who died for us. They left their homes families and friend and everybody they care about. Some of the them were killed in action and wounded badly. The people who returned were forced to remember the scares of the war.

Canadians volunteered to serve our country. War always meant death and away form their family. They join the war to care for the ones that are wounded.

We should remember the armies military and soldiers because they fought for us and the battles they fought. The first battle was at Ypres Belgium on April 22 1915. The people that sacrifice their families to go to war.

On November 11th we celebrate Remembrance day. The red flower is called a Poppies they also represent Remembrance.  We also do two minutes of silence.

Titanic Summary

Titanic

By Alison

2,200 passengers and crew members boarded the Titanic. Some paid more than $4,000 for the trip, while many of the crew did not even earn$1,000 in a year. The Titanic rubbed against an iceberg for ten seconds. Several small cracks appeared instantly, and water started to pour in side. Another passenger ship was just 20 minutes away. However its radio operator was not on duty, no one heard the signal. Another ship the Carpathia was 4 hours away. When the Carpathia arrived at 4.00 A.M. It was too late for many passengers, it had already sunk. They did not that the Titanic’s ship only had room for 1,200 people, 705 people survived the wreck, the remaining 1,517 people died.

In April 1912 2,200 passengers bored the titanic. The ships promoters claimed that their vessel was unsinkable. The titanic was sailing from England to New York city. At 11:40 pm the titanic rubbed alongside iceberg. Just after 2:00 am water had flooded through the ship’s hull. 705 people survived and 1,517 people died. In 1985 a team of scientists found the wreckage of the titanic 12,500 feet beneath the sea.

The Unsinkable Titanic

People thought the titanic was unsinkable because it had 16 water compartments. So 2,200 people went on and saw an iceberg that hit on them for 10 seconds. A 20 min. away ship did not get the call but a 4 hour away ship got the call but was 2 hours late but it did save 705 people.

Topic: Laptops

Have you ever imagined being able to keep your own laptop? It would be good for schools to let children keep a laptop so they can access all their work at home. I think this would be a great idea!
I think all students grade 5 and up should be able to keep a laptop to catch up on assignments that can only be accessed through the student’s computer. This opportunity would be best for family’s who don’t have a computer that is able to access the students work. This would also be good because the teacher can access the students work and see how much they have gotten done at home.

This would also be good for students because they could practice typing over the weekend to get prepared for harder and more detailed writing. The more a student practices there writing the faster they will type and the more they practice the more detailed there writing will become.

The last reason is this allows students to research facts for assignments. The fastest way for a student to research facts is through the internet. If students research facts on the internet it will take them 20 minutes. If students have to look up facts though books it will take them 1 hour.

I think giving students a laptop is a great idea. Students could finish assignments at home that can only be accessed through the schools network. It would be good for students to practice typing. It would also be for students to look up facts.

Topic:  Halloween costumes

Hi my name is Kiera and I want to talk about wearing are costumes for this year’s Halloween.  Have you ever seen your faces when we wear are costumes? A lot of kids love wear their costumes. It is really fun and we are telling you that we love to wear your costumes.  I think it is a really good idea to where our costumes!!!

Teachers always say that we always should be creative with everything.  We love being creative with your costumes.  It is fun to have costumes to wear at school.  Kids and adults love to dress up. A lot of kids love Halloween.

It is fun to wear our costumes to school and we get to scare your teacher.  Every year I see smile in everyone face.  I hear I like that costumes, I want to be that next year, that gives them an idea of what they like.  It is fun to costumes a lot of people like to wear costumes.  Some people like to dress up because it is fun and not everyone gets to dress up so we should be thankful that we have the change to wear a costume.

Sometimes not all of us get to go with your friends on Halloween.  We live at different places. When we wear them we can show them at school. 95 % would have a smile on their face when they get to school because they could not wait to put on their costume and show everyone.

I think wearing our Halloween costume would be good and we would just love you even more if you did this.
Thank you for your time

Topic: More primary and junior sports at Coronation

For Coronation public school

Have you ever thought Coronation doesn’t have many sports for primaries and juniors?  This could be important for primaries and juniors because they might want more sports to play here. Who knows they could be getting tired of only having dodge ball, soccer or volley ball to play. I think this is a fantastic idea and the primaries and juniors at coronation could think so too.

Coronation needs more sports for juniors and Primary’s to play, especially primary’s because they need to be more active like the intermediates here at this school. It seems like to me that intermediates get more sports and are more active than any other child in the school because they have more sports than any other division. Juniors should be able play more sports, dodge ball at lunch like the Primary’s do, football, flag football and more. Primaries should be able to play more sports, volleyball, soccer, football and more.

On this topic I think we should also have more teachers to teach and run the sports at coronation. Here it is the almost the same  four or six teachers teaching each sport, we need other teachers to run these sports so we can have more sports. For example we can have Mr. Durning and Mr. Ferguson teach basketball, Ms. Simpson and Ms. Mattin teach volleyball and so on for other teachers and sports. My opinion is we should have two teachers running each sport and have more than only the same six to four teachers teaching the sports.

People at Coronation should give more thought to having more, better or newer sports here at the school. Just because juniors and primaries are younger than the intermediates it does not mean they get to play less sports than the bigger division, that means that they should get the same amount of sports or more than that and every division should get the same sports as each other so everyone can be as healthy as they need to be.

In conclusion it is a fantastic idea that we need more primary and junior sports for here at Coronation. If we get more primary and junior sports here at Coronation then the kids here could stay healthy, be active and have fun. That is why we should have more primary and junior at Coronation.

Centers in gym
by Grace

Students should get to do centers have you done centers before if you did? Did you like it? Think if you had fun don’t you think kids can get to do that to? I love centers in gym class it was so much fun :)!!! I totally think kids should stay active by running and doing centers

If we do more centers in gym kids can learn to play more sports and do more things. Kids get overweight if they don’t get enough exercise, we can prevent this by schools setting up centers including the following jump rope, basketball, workout, volleyball, scoops. We did this a couple of times and it was fun. On Friday October 24 2014 we did centers and the things we did were basketball, volley ball, badminton, skipping ropes and scoops. The sports you put in can help the kids with outside of school sports. The kids will do better outside of school and parents don’t you want your kids to do better and enjoy the sports you paid money for?

Lots of kids hate running because it is hard work for them, problem is they don’t run or exercise enough then running hurts them. I think we should do laps in gym before anything it will build leg muscles so they can run. There are very few people who run a lot in my class; it makes playing man hunt not as fun as I could be but it is what it is. I try to run as much as I can but sometimes I forget. Kids also don’t like running because it tiers them out if you do it more then it won’t tier you out so much, you will still get tired because your muscles are working a lot but you should still run. If you don’t get active other kids can make fun of you and not let you play certain games like manhunt or soccer or tag/freezetag.it will make kids more energized and in a better mood, now don’t you want you kids and students to be happy and always have a smile on their face. You should encourage kids to be happy and active, when kids are happy they can focus better on other work and assignments and if they focus better that means better grades and happier parents and for the teachers no angry comments only happy comments.

There are so many possible things you can put out, some of those things people will love and put their best effort but some things people will hate and won’t try, if you don’t try you will do lousy if you try you will do better. Sometimes teachers may put out mats for push-ups and sit ups or crunches burpeys and much more, you should not think it’s a punishment it is not they are just trying to get you in shape so you can do games of man hunt or basketball or maybe even   doge ball for example I think some kids like basketball or volley ball and some gym teachers don’t do centers so that the can practice those sports. You can teach those sports as a center to. That’s what most teachers don’t know, the teachers don’t know that the students are still learning that particular sport but are also learning many other skills. The students enjoy the centers more than learning one thing at a time

I think it is a great idea to do centers because the kids will get better physical education. The teachers can also make the kids do laps so they become better runners.  That’s why I think doing centers is a good idea, kids should be allowed to run around and do a lot more and centers provide that for them. You want your kids to enjoy gym so they can get a better grade in gym. Your kids will come back with a smile and tell you all about their day.

Topic: Dogs

Have you ever walked your dog? Well some people are considering to not letting dogs into  some parks and places.

Dogs should be able to go anywhere they want because the owner always have a hold of the dog and the dog is always   under control .People don’t need to worry because most dogs are not aggressive or rough so most  of them are not harmful. Many dogs are very nice and gentle.

Dogs are just like humans they need to walk too so if people are not letting dogs walk to some parks and places it is not fair at all because dogs should be able to walk many places and parks. Most dogs are very nice and would not think of harming people
Most people are kicking dogs out of parks because they scare some kids but most of kids love dogs. And if there is a couple of aggressive dogs then the owner would tell the children to not pet the dog and the dog could not get of the leash or harness so if there is a aggressive dog I could not hurt any people. People should be able to walk their dogs at parks.

I think letting dogs in some parks is a very great idea. And most dogs are very nice. And people do not need to worry about where they can walk there dog because people should have the right to walk their dog where ever and whenever they want.

What are Pimples?
Anya, Alison, Tyson, Tye

A pimple is a small pustule. A pustule is a small blister or pimple on the skin that contains puffs. A papule is a small raised solid pimple or swelling.  Pimples can be caused by a variety of factors which are most commonly experienced during puberty. The three main causes are 1. Over production of oil sebum
2. Irregular shedding of dead skin cells
3. Buildup of bacteria
Sebum is an oily substance secured by the sebacus glands in skin. Its main purpose is to make the skin or hair oily, and it can begin to smell when broken down by bacteria outside the body. The sebaceous glands are usually attached to hair follicles, but they also exist in some hairless people.
The glands which produce sebum exist inside the pores of our skin. A pimple is a small red bump. Pimples are small skin lesions or inflammations of the skin. The outer layers of our skin are being shed continuously. Sometimes dead skin cells are left behind and get stuck together by the sticky sebum causing a blockage in the poor.
Inflammation is a localized physical condition in which part of the body becomes reddened swelling hot and often painful especially as a reaction to injury or a infection.

WHAT IS EARWAX?
Cody, Ben, Jumah, James

Ear wax can be really helpful and important. Ear wax is found on the outer ear canal. It can be quite sticky and a little shiny. Ear wax builds up in your ears. When cleaning out ears don’t use fingers or cotton swabs it may cause bleeding. Getting earwax with your fingers may push it even more back. Some people have extra earwax building up. Doctors can give you special medicine to get rid of ear wax.
Earwax can also be made in the flesh of your ear.

By Matthew Lindsay Braydon

Athlete’s foot also called tinea pedis is a fungal infection of the foot. It causes peeling redness and inching burning and sometimes blisters and sores. Athlete’s foot is a very common infection. If you get cancer there is a needle you get that makes you lose your hair. People shave their heads and they become bald. If you itch to much you can lose your hair bit by bit. Illness car crashes and flu can cause hair loss. Another term for hair loss is telogen effluvium. Why Do People Have Different Skin Colours?
Emily, Alison, Heaven and Marlene

Skin pigmentation in a human being is to regulate the amount of ultraviolet radiation penetrating the skin controlling, it’s biochemical effects. UV (ultraviolet) radiation is present in sunlight, produced by electric arcs and specialized lights such as tanning lamps and black lights. Natural skin color can darken as results to tanning due to exposure to sunlight. If we don’t have much pigment then we would be white, but if we had a lot of skin pigment we would have dark skin also known as black skin. Skin pigmentation is the coloring of a person’s skin. When a person is healthy their skin will appear normal. If you get an illness or injury the person’s skin might change color becoming darker. The melanin in your skin absorbs UV rays or solar radiation that is how your skin can become darker. Melanin is produced by cells called malanocytes .

Why Was Smoking Invented?
By: James, Jorja, Jumah, and Keely
Smoking was originally made for Indians, many Indians were offered tobacco. In the 1600’s tobacco they were so popular and they were good as gold (literally) but then I got worse in our times. It’s so bad it now causes cancer in our days and since that happens, most kids say: Why did they invent smoking even though it’s so bad?

Do Fish Sleep?
Fish don’t sleep like humans do they sleep differently. Yes fish do sleep but only with their eyes open. Their eyes open when they are sleep because they don’t have eyelids. Fish don’t have eyelids to close them though so it will help them with danger. Some fish use camouflage to help them hide when they go to sleep. Many types of fish like eels sleep inside rocks.
Why Do People Hurt Each Other?
Harper, Mason, Matthew, Tye

People hurt each other because they’re trying to solve problems but they are causing different problems.  People hurt each other when they can’t control the anger inside of them.  People hurt each other sometimes because people tell them to hurt someone.  Some people hurt each other for money that people pay them.  People hurt each other for power over other people that are less power.  People hurt each other because they might be upset or mad at someone or something.  People hurt each other for the sick of being mad.  Some people hurt each other for no reason they might think its hoarse play but it’s not.  People hurt each other because they may have bad memories (Bad past).  People hurt each other because someone is bullying them so they want to get payback.  People hurt each other because they want to be left alone but people keep laughing and pointing at him so he gets really, really mad.  People hurt each other because they keep taunting someone that they are smarter than him.

Why should people stop smoking?

Smoking messes up your lungs. It makes your teeth yellow. You get a hole in your throat. You can get cancer. Your breath smells like cigarettes. It can affect people around you. The things you use smell bad. When you spend money on cigarettes you can become broke when you can be buying food instead. Smoking gives you oral health problems. Cigarettes include chemicals that can kill you. Your condition can be negatively affected. Smoking takes away minutes of your life. Smoking is disrespectful for the people around you. You can shorten the lives around you and animals. You can kill very important animals such as cows. When you smoke you set a bad example for your children. Make a smart decision whether to smoke or not. One day you will regret the day you started smoking. Smoking can give you several diseases like heart cancer. 440,000 people in the USA die from cigarettes. People start smoking when they are teens and get addicted until they are adults or even longer. Some people try to stop but they return in the first three days. Smoking is a habit that is hard to stop. A cigarette looks harmless enough tobacco is covered in white paper. When burned it releases ten chemicals which affect your body. When you have cancer diagnoses you may not know how important eating can be. Good nutrients can help you feel better and retain your strength. Depending the experience you might get side effects. Many of these side effects can change in taste smell and you can get diarrhea. The first cigarette was invented in 1865 made by Washington Duke on his 300 acre farm. Christopher Columbus smoked the first cigarette

The zipper is one of the simplest machines of modern times, It is also one of the most essential, but it is a useful device in our everyday lives. Zippers can only be manufactured using modern machines, but they are built around at two of the oldest machines known to man.
The teeth go into the zipper and the zipper squeezes the teeth together like puzzle pieces and get stuck together. To open the zipper the teeth go back through the zipper and get separated by the wall in the zipper. It was invented by Whitcom Jetson in 1844.

Which Bees are the Deadliest?
Kiera, Josh, Alison, Peyton

The deadliest bee is the GIANT Japanese hornet.
The Japanese hornet only comes out at night and if it stings you, the poison can get in you and you could die. The reason why the Japanese hornet is the deadliest bee is because when you get stung it hurts and the poison gets in you then either it kills you or gets you really sick.
How it gets you sick the stinger gets inside you and if you don’t take it out as soon as possible it will go into your body and get it really sick.

Body Systems Research

Nervous System
Matthew H.  Josh, Braydon, Lindsay

The brain and spinal cord are in the nervous system. The brain and spinal cord are the center of the nervous. The left side of your brain controls the right side of your body. The majority of the nervous system is tissue made up of two classes of cells: neurons and neuroglia. The brain is soft and is about 3 pounds. Nerves are bundles of axons in the peripheral nervous system. The spinal cord is a long thin mass of bundled neurons that carries information. The nervous system has 3 main functions: sensory, integration, and motor. The spinal cord is gray.  There is two parts of the nervous system. The neurons or nerve cell is the basic functional unit of the nervous system.     If we did not have a nervous system we could not move
Cardiovascular System
Jenson, Mason Emma

It transports blood nutrients gases and hormones. During an average lifespan, the heart beats 3,000,000,000 times. The heart contracts tirelessly more than 2.5 billion times. There are four parts of the epidermis they are epidermis, dermis, fatty tissue, and muscle. There are two intestines the large intestines and small intestines. The heart has many arties and veins. It takes a blood cell just 60 seconds to circulate through your body while at rest. The intestines are 1.5 m. There are over 2 million red blood cells in the body. The average adult human brain has up about 100 billion cells. The heart is about the size of a closed fist. There are about 160,000,000,000 cells in a brain. The lungs can hold up to 3 to 5 litres of air.  The cardiovascular system is an organ system comprised of the heart, blood and blood vessel. Without human blood the human body would stop working.           There are about 4.7 to 6.1 million blood cells in the heart.  There are about 5 million red Blood cells per ml of blood.

The Digestive System

Grace Jumah Kiera James

The food travels through the small intestine and the large intestine. The body gets rid of unnecessary things. Body uses food the Acid breaks down the food made to break food down so it’s easier to get rid of. It takes about 7 sec to get from the esophagus to the stomach. The adult stomach can only 1.5 liters of food when full. The large intestine is approximately 1.5m.The digestive system is made up of multiple organs .The food has to travel through a bunch of windy tube .The saliva softer so it’s easier to chew.
The parts it has to travel through are
Stomach
Small intestine
Large intestine
Appendix( branch that is attached to the large intestine)
Epiglottis (ufala)
Esophagus (throat
Anus (butt)

The endocrine system includes all of the glands of the body and the hormones product by those glands. produce an incorrect amount of hormones. Together with the nervous system and the immune the endocrine system helps the body to cope with different events and stresses. The foundations of the endocrine system are the hormones and glands. As the bodies chemical messenger hormones transfer information and instructions from one set of cells to another. Although many different hormones and circulate through the bloodstream, each one effects only the cells that are genetically programs to receive and respond to its message. Hormone levels can be influenced by factors such as stress, infection, and changes in the balance of fluid and minerals in blood.

The Skeletal System
Emily, Ben, Cody, Moody
The skeletal system includes all of the bones and joints in your body. Each bone is a complex living organ that is made up of many cells, protein, fibers and minerals. Skeleton acts like a scaffold by providing support and protection for soft tissues that make up the rest of the body. New blood cells are produced by the red bone marrow inside our bones. The skeletal system provides attachment points for muscles allowing movements at the joints. The bones in our body act as the body’s warehouse for calcium, iron and energy in form of fat. Skeletons grow throughout your childhood and provides framework for the rest of your body to grow along. The skeletal system in an adult’s body is made up of 80 bones in the following regions: skull, hyoid, auditory ossicles, ribs, sternum and vertebral column. Bones protect your organs and let you move in many ways. The bones in your body give your body structure. Adult skeletons 206 bones in total. The bones in museums are dry, hard and crumbly. The bones in your body are very much alive. Almost every single bone in your body is made up of the same material. The  outer part of your body is called periosteal.

Muscular System

There are more than 600 muscles in your body. They do everything from pumping blood to helping you lift your heavy backpack. You control some of your muscles while others like your heart do their jobs without you. Muscles are all made of the same materials a type of elastic tissue sort of like the materials in a rubber band. Thousands or even tens of thousands of small fibers make up each muscle. You have three different types of muscles in your body: smooth muscles, cardiac muscles and skeletal muscles. Your brain and body tell your muscles what to do without you even thinking about it. Smooth muscles are at work all over your body even in your bladder and it also allows you to hold in your urine (pee). Did you know your heart is a muscle? Your heart is the most active muscle in your body. Your heart is like a pump or two pumps in one. Your heart is the size of your fist. There are muscles in your arms, legs, back and your behind. You will find smooth muscles behind your eyes too. These muscles keep your eyes focused. These are the types of skeletal muscles found in your body deltoid, pectorals, biceps, rectus, tendons, and quadriceps.

Respiratory System.
Alison,Marlene,Anastasia ,Heaven.

Your body could not breathe without the Respiratory system. The Respiratory system is made up of the Trachea the lungs and the diaphragm. When you breath in air you bring oxygen into your lungs and blow out carbon dioxide, and also when you inhale your lungs inflate. The tiny air sacs in your lungs are called Alveoli. Also there are tiny hairs in your lungs that keep dirt out they are called cilia. The voice box is known as the larynx. From your lungs blood returns back into your heart where it is pumped out to the rest of your body, carrying oxygen with it
